Introduction

Photovoltaic panels are used in areas that capture sunlight and convert it into electric energy. Although it may sound great many people in America do not see the fact that solar energy will not work. This is due to the economic and energy efficiency principles of solar that cannot compete with oil, coal, or natural gas on the free market. Solar also costs much more than fossil fuels.

Photovoltaic Panels

Photovoltaic panels are used from the home to the workplace, they convert photonic energy into electrical energy. Although photovoltaic panels can produce energy from the sun they are not very efficient. Below a list of reasons why solar energy just simply cannot work:

1. Photovoltaic Panels have big upfront costs.

2. Maintainance costs are too great.

3. It can take more than 30 years to pay a system off, most only last around 5-10 years.

4. A building powered by solar will use electricity from a power company when the solar energy system stops producing energy and when its stored energy is completely used. This means that you will still be paying the power company for energy.

What many Americans don't know about solar energy is that you have to pay upfront costs that most likely will never be paid off. To put solar panels on an average home it would cost around $50,000. The average electric bill for people is somewhere around $150 a month. Now if the solar energy system were to produce 90% of the homes electricity the electric bill would cost $15, giving us $135 which will go to paying off the solar energy system. Now if we divide $135 into $50,000 we will get the amount of time in months it will take to pay off the solar panel system. The amount of months is about 370; that's 31 years, and we are still paying the power company $15 a month! Most likely the system will only last around 5-10 years plus maintainance costs. I think I would rather pay my monthly electric bill, wouldn't you?
